A great pair of speakers November 3, 2008 I am using them for my rear surrounds. Worked like they are supposed to. Easy to install. They sound great. They look great.
Fit the Bill October 21, 2008 I am overall very pleased with these speakers. Unfortunately, there were a few unforeseen glitches that I ran into that were not anyone's fault. My builder put wood between the studs in the wall where I wanted to mount the speakers. This was done because he thought I was going to mount regular speakers. I had all of my speaker wire installed behind the drywall as the house was being built 12 years ago. Of course this was great when I had regular speakers but . . . I recently decided to mount in-wall speakers. Thus, I had to purchase a reciprocal saw to cut the wood from the wall. The other glitch was that I wanted to paint the speakers using latex paint as I decided to repaint the room. Latex paint will work, but you have to be patient and use multiple coats. So, what should have taken minutes actually took many hours. This is not Polk's fault as my situation was somewhat unique. The bottom line is that the speakers look and sound great. I'm very pleased with the purchase. Now I have to decide if I should replace my front speakers. Hmm. . .
Great speakers with aimable tweeters October 3, 2008 Installation was very easy. The frame and grill took paint beautifully and blended right into the wall. A thin film behind the grill hides the speaker cones. I wish I could have done all 5 channels with these units, but a corner installation doesn't make sense with this product.
Our room is a strange shape, so the aimable tweeters really came in handy to get the surround just right. As always, it's tough to beat Polk on price vs performance.
Good clean sound August 26, 2008 I have two pairs of these speakers, one in my kitchen ceiling and one in my dining room wall. Both installations sound great. The highs are very crisp, especially thanks to being able to aim the tweeters. The lows are respectable considering the size and lack of tuned enclosure, but obviously these don't create room-shaking bass. If you wanted more bass in the room with these, I'd recommend an in-floor sub to keep the nice uncluttered look in the room. Installation was very easy. The depth of the rotating mounting tabs was enough to handle even my very difficult kitchen ceiling which consisted of 0.5" drywall on top of 0.25" of plaster on top of 0.5" of wood planks (that combination was fun to cut through). My only disappointment was that the wire connections are spring push terminals instead of more rugged and secure binding posts. With that in mind, I would recommend securing your wire to the stud inside your wall somewhere near your cutout so the weight of the wire isn't pulling on the connectors (so it doesn't come out over time). My only other advice would be not to install these on an outside wall (I didn't) if you plan to play your music loud and have neighbors nearby. Trust me, they will hear every thump of bass since these are mounted in the walls.
one non-expert's opinion July 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Circuit City's Firedog team recommended these and after a lot of research I had them installed this weekend. They rock! I have two of them as my front left and right speakers and a third as the center channel (leaving a fourth not being used, unfortunately) and am extremely pleased with the sound they produce. I combined them with a 150 watt Boston Acoustic sub, and two Polk in-ceiling speakers, using a Denon 888, and popped in Saving Private Ryan and felt like I was storming the beach at Normandy. I can't give the technical specifics of why they sound so good, I just know that my dog got out of the room from the explosions and bullets. Got a great deal through Amazon with free shipping and they got here in two days. Everything was great. I highly recommend these.
