Product Description The YST-SW216BL Active Subwoofer sets the standard for subwoofers in this class with high dynamic power and low-noise performance thanks to Advanced YST II, a Linear Port, front-firing design, plus many other sophisticated features. Advanced YST II combines negative impedance and constant-current principles to drive the speaker cone with even tighter control than before. This system dynamically optimizes effective speaker impedance to maintain excellent linearity. This means more stable and accurate low range response for more natural and energetic bass reproduction.

Great bang for the buck December 3, 2008 I bought this after my previous Infinity sub blew during a brown out. Make sure you use proper surge protection, kids! :)
This sub has tight, punchy bass in my 15 x 25 basement viewing area. I have it coupled with Boston Acoustics bookshelf speakers and an Integra receiver in a 5.1 setup. I have had to turn it down even after an auto-calibration by the receiver - it has power to spare.
I bought mine for $99 - a steal at this price. If you want a sub that delivers on a budget, this is it.
CANT BEAT PRICE November 25, 2008 I am very pleased with this subwoofer, cant beat the price, it has plenty of power, attractive and has really good sound, but it isn't going to be overpowering, dont recommend for someone that wants crazy bass (Buy a 12inch sub or 15inch)It is replacing a smaller subwoofer, from a 600watt kenwood system, it obviously blows the previous subwoofer away, plan on rebuilding my sound system, starting with this speaker...
Strong Subwoofer for the price! November 24, 2008 The YST-SW216BL performs flawlessly with a full bass in rooms of moderate size. It is priced very competively and carries Yamaha quality.
Not powerful and no auto power control October 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It does work to certain degree. But it serverly lack of power. I have a Yamaha amplifier provide 100W to each channel. The last 100W DLH subwoofer failed after few years use. So I thought I would replace with this one also 100W in power.
I was wrong. This unit can produce more like 15W. In addition, the last woofer had auto power -- you don't have to turn on power, it will automatically turn the woofer on when income audio signal detected -- this unit has a power button on the back. You have to manually turn it on and off. Whe woofer is located in a built-in rack, it is hard to reach to the power button.
This is the only piece Yamaha brand audio equipment ever disappointed me.
Great value in a low priced unit September 29, 2008 I am not an audiophile, thus my evaluation of the Yamaha YST-SW216 is obviously based on criteria different from those an aficionado would use.
My measurement standards are simple: 1) does it produce a lot of bass, and 2) if I turn the volume to maximum, will the neighbors complain?
In answer to the latter question, you bet. If I crank the volume past about 1/8th of its range, the downstairs neighbors and those sharing a common wall with my unit can hear it loud and clear.
In terms of producing a solid bass, yes. The YST-SW216 is an excellent complement to my television's speakers.
The unit is basically a cube, a very heavy cube. Yamaha recommends putting the unit in s corner, facing the room at a 45 degree angle. Works well in my somewhat oddly dimensioned living/dining room.
Hook up is by RCA phono plug or wires. There is a crossover switch, a volume control and and a power switch.
The unit doesn't have ank kind of automatic shutoff or gate, so if the scene or program switches to one where lots of bass may be inappropriate, you may need to get up and turn the volume down or turn it off.
As I mentioned, I am not an audiophile, but I am definitely pleased and impressed with the amount and volume of bass this unit produces. Great value for the price.
