Gold-plated binding posts of the Sony XS L1090P5 subwoofer is a solid, secure, simple and capable method of transferring serious current to speakers with protection against corrosion for lower resistance. Aluminum cone is strong and lightweight so it resists flexing while moving quickly to accurately reproduce the demanding transients of the lowest frequencies. The L1090P5 features a 4-layer edge-wound voice coil. Start with an aluminum former and wind four layers of copper wire that's flat, rather than round. This allows the wire to pack together in a smaller space than would otherwise be needed. More copper means better current handling, so the woofer can take more power! The aluminum former retains its shape and resists very high temperatures without burning or melting. Three layers of high strength damper material make up each of the two spiders, ensuring virtually perfect linear travel of the voice coil. The lead wires are embedded in the top spider, preventing entanglement and extending the voice coil's throw. Pentagonal Cone improves cone rigidity for lower distortion, and reduction of standing waves on the cone itself, for cleaner sound and better transient response.
