Patience pays off..... January 7, 2009 I've been shopping for the right deal on the Polk PSW505 for about a year. I got a great price, very fast shipping and customer service contacted me before, during and after my order arrived. Sub is perfect for my larger-sized theater room.
This is it!! January 6, 2009 This sub is well built. The bass produced by this beast is simply ridiculous. This sub will rattle your windows and upset your neighbors. Just sick!!!
OUTSTANDING Subwoofer for the Money. Wow! January 6, 2009 I have this fantastic Polk subwoofer paired with audiophile-caliber KEF Five-Two 11 speakers, and my home theater sounds incredible. The bass is stunning. This Polk subwoofer cleanly shakes the house during action scenes. (I am careful that the subwoofer is not turned-up too high, because too much bass ruins the sound with unintelligible muddiness.) You can feel the sound waves of this 12" beast. During Star Wars I, the bass rumbled an upstairs bedroom with the door closed. The low bass guitar in U2's song "Please" sounded superb - a tough test. This subwoofer can go real low if you have it positioned right.
I am shocked that a subwoofer can sound this for under $300, which is what I paid. It is a shocking bargain.
Now to nitpick: It could use more definition and precise clarity, which is why it does not cost $1,100. The driver is surrounded by Styrofoam, which means it will last only a few years. Also, high-end satellite systems (with small drivers) ideally could use a subwoofer with a higher extension, such as to 200 HZ. This subwooder is flat up to around 150 HZ and down to about 30 HZ (or maybe 25 with correct positioning).
If under-$400 is your price range, than I highly recommend this subwoofer. If you can afford to spend $800 for better quality, such as KEF, than do so. Otherwise, this subwoofer is incredible for the price and a terrific performer.
If it sounds good; enjoy it! December 30, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm not technically sophisticated enough to really critique this powered subwoffer; however, I like deep and distinctive bass sounds and this one provides that. For those people like me - looking for a speaker that sounds good - I would recommend it.
Excellent bass reproduction December 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent bass reproduction on movies. I have not used it on music very much yet, but initial impression is that it does well on bass instruments in tunes where these have been mixed in well. I have a fairly large room (~20'x18') where I have placed the sub woofer and the unit provides more than adequate power for the room.
