Amazon.com Product Description
Dive into seamless, dynamic, multichannel surround excitement with Polk Audio's 6-piece, 5.1-channel RM6900 home theater speaker system. Two large stand-mountable bookshelf speakers provide the heart of the system, which also includes a 2-way, 3-driver center-channel speaker, a pair of versatile satellite speakers, and a powerful active subwoofer.

The satellites--which you can mount on walls, shelves, or stands--are slim, shallow, and styled to complement today's flat-panel video monitors such as plasma, LCD, and DLP displays. The stylishly curved satellite enclosures are constructed of heavy duty, non-resonant aluminum; the shape breaks up internal standing-wave resonances so you'll hear clear, lifelike sound.

The slim-line, 100-watt powered subwoofer uses a single 10-inch driver. The driver and the sub's slot-loaded port are mounted on the side, making it easier to tuck the whole unit out of view. When placed in-view, the sub presents a smaller profile than conventionally styled woofers.

The satellites and center speakers each feature two 3.25-inch mineral-filled polymer dynamic-balance midrange drivers for distortion-free midrange reproduction, even at high volume. The broad-dispersion design allows everyone in the listening area to hear clear, well-balanced sound. The satellites' high-performance .75-inch dynamic-balance silk/polymer-composite dome tweeters deliver sweet highs and precise "imaging."

A long-excursion driver coupled with Polk's patented Power Port venting technology makes the lower-midrange response of these satellites much more robust than other similarly sized sat/sub systems. The result is seamless satellite-to-subwoofer blending, rich lower midrange response, and wide dynamic range.

For improved low-end performance, the satellites and center speaker feature Polk's patented Power Port technology. Convenient and high-quality 5-way binding-post terminals accept bare wire, spade lugs, or banana plugs. Additional satellites are sold individually so you can step up to a 6.1 or 7.1 systems as your space and surround receiver allow.

The system comes with wall-mount brackets for the satellites that permit up to 15 degrees of lateral movement. Built-in threaded inserts allow the use of fully articulating wall-mount brackets (optional). The system's matching center-channel speaker also features wall-mounting brackets and a clever "cradle" that lets you aim the speaker upward or downward when it's mounted on a video display or shelf. Additionally, the RM6900 includes stands for table-top satellite mounting. Speaker cable is not included.

What's in the Box
Six speakers (front left/right, center speaker, left/right surrounds, and a powered subwoofer), wall-mount brackets for center and satellites, 2 table stands for the satellites, and a user's manual.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Outstanding   December 31, 2007
These were replacments for a one year old set of Pioneers. What a diffence the Polks image so much better and the quality it outstanding. I would buy again without a doubt.

4 out of 5 stars Ditto -- Speakers awesome, but Sub is lacking   May 7, 2007
These speakers are great! I'm running them on a Pioneer Elite 81TXV. The speakers are absolutely amazing, as is the receiver. Now I just need to pick up two more satelites for full 7.1 surround.

As mentioned in previous reviews the sub is lacking. I have the sub connected via the LFE input from the preout on the receiver. The recommended set up in the directios was too confusing and required too much speaker wire.

I intend to replace the sub at some point in the future.

I hope that my short review helps!

4 out of 5 stars Weak subwoofer   May 7, 2007
The sub woofer really disappoints. The speakers are alright. I have yet to configure my system to get more out of the satellite speakers.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding surround speakers   March 17, 2007
Outstanding speakers for movies and TV. And they look good too. They blow my previous Bose system away. Also very good for casual music listening (as far as small speakers go; comparable to some decent bookshelf setups).

One word advice I think someone else mentioned...don't skimp when it comes to buying a quality amp. I first connected the Polks to my budget Sony receiver and the sound was OK, not great. Once my new Onkyo arrived, these speakers really came to life.

I also hooked up the sub like Polk recommended versus directly to the receiver.

For better music quality, I plan purchasing larger Polks and using them in the front and using this system to fill out a 7.1 setup. For now, these rock for DVDs and HDTV and do pretty good with my IPOD and music CDs.

5 out of 5 stars Great system -affordable price.   January 26, 2007

I brought one of these systems about fur weeks ago, after reading a cnet review talking about a poor performance of the subwoofer. I decided to take the risk, and combine the speakers with a good AV amplifier/reciever. The first fact here is that if you have spent about 600 bucks in a high performance speaker set, please, buy a good amplifier. I'm using a Yamaha rx-v659, and it sounds great. Second Fact, a good portion of your 600 is spent in the subwoofer. In this set, is a huge speaker with autonomous power and high capabilities. So, if you have such excelent machine in your hands, please, let it do the work, connect the subwoofer in the way that Polk says, not by the subwoofer out in your amplifier, even by the LFE out.
I tested all te possible connections and found that the best is by the provider's book. Then I tested te set with King Crimson Concert Eyes Wide Open, and the difference is astounding. Trey Gunn's stick guitar sounds loud and clear, is a pure sound, sounds like having an electric bass in your hands. The purpose of this set is not to blow up your ears, is to make you hear pure and accurate sound, is a real value for your money set.
